How can I help?

Michael McKinnon – CIO

G’Day from Melbourne, Australia. My name is Michael, but some people know me on Twitter as @bigmac.

I’m Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Tesserent and Pure Security where I get to work with the brightest minds in ethical hacking and cybersecurity. Our customers are medium to enterprise sized businesses and government agencies.

As an experienced media spokesperson, I’m often responding to questions from journalists about technology, cybersecurity, and other interesting topics; here are some of those articles, and TV interviews.

In the night time, my passion is cyber security research (okay it’s pretty much mostly surfing the web), writing, and contributing articles to publications like Cyber Defense Magazine. I’m also deeply interested in blockchain projects and personally run many nodes to support the peer-to-peer networks of many cryptocurrencies.

As a volunteer, I dedicate a significant amount of time supporting the Australian Information Security Association (AISA) as Chair of the Melbourne Branch where I have a committee of branch executives who help organise monthly ‘grass-roots’ style events that inspire our members in Melbourne.

Lastly, since 2018 I’ve been one of a handful of authorised trainers in Australia for (ISC)2 which is the largest global cybersecurity professional organisation and I’m certified to teach two of the most-recognised cyber industry qualifications:

So, how can I help?

Connect with me on LinkedIn and don’t be shy – say hello – especially if you’re looking to get into cybersecurity.

Until next time, stay safe out there.

Yours sincerely,

Michael McKinnon
